Why your skin is asking for Facial Bojin

If you've been staring at your reflection wondering why you look more tired than you feel — it isn't always about ageing. In TCM, dull skin, puffiness, jowls and that tight-jaw feeling are signs of Qi stagnation in the face meridians.

Facial Bojin is a precise scraping technique using a buffalo-horn (牛角) or jade tool to release these blocked points. The results you can see in the mirror after one session:

  • Sharper jawline and lifted cheeks as fluid drains
  • Brighter, rosier complexion from improved circulation
  • Softer fine lines as facial muscles release tension
  • Less puffiness under the eyes and along the jaw
  • A real sense of calm — bojin is unexpectedly relaxing

Do it daily for 5 minutes and you'll see what regular customers mean when they say it's the best skincare investment they've made.

Your 2-hour class, step by step

A small-group, hands-on workshop. You'll practise on your own face under our therapist's guidance.

1 · Skin & Meridian Consultation (15 min)

We assess your skin type, common tension points, and which meridians are most blocked — so the routine is tailored to your face.

2 · TCM Face Mapping & Acupoint Tour (20 min)

A clear walkthrough of the 12 key facial acupoints — the ones that lift, the ones that depuff, and the ones for stress relief. You'll get a printable map to take home.

3 · Apply Our Signature Herbal Cream (10 min)

Our specially-formulated herbal cream lets the bojin tool glide smoothly while delivering botanicals deep into the skin. You'll take home a generous sample.

4 · Hands-on Practice — Half-Face Demo (45 min)

We bojin one side of your face and guide you to do the other. Mid-session you'll see the difference between treated and untreated sides in the mirror — that "wait, what?!" moment is the highlight.

5 · Full-Face Routine + Q&A (25 min)

Complete the other side under our guidance, then ask anything — skin concerns, frequency, layering with other skincare, your specific tension patterns.

6 · Take Home: Tool + Cream + Routine (5 min)

You'll leave with your own bojin tool, our herbal cream sample, the printable face map, and a clear daily routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Facial Bojin and gua sha?

Both are TCM scraping techniques, but they work differently. Gua sha uses broad sweeping strokes mainly to detox and depuff. Facial Bojin is more precise — it targets specific acupoints and meridian lines to release deeper tension, lift muscle, and stimulate circulation at a deeper layer.

Will I see results immediately?

Yes — most students see a visible lift on the bojin-treated side of their face by the end of class. Lasting changes come with 5 minutes of daily practice over 2–4 weeks.

Is it painful? I have sensitive skin.

When done correctly, Facial Bojin should never be painful — it feels firm but soothing. Our herbal cream is gentle enough for sensitive skin and we do a small patch test first.

Where and when is the class held?

At our MoxaMoxa studio in Singapore. We run classes on weekends and selected weekday evenings. After you book, our team will WhatsApp you within the day to confirm a date.

Can I bring a friend at the 2-pax price?

Yes please — both of you should book on the same checkout. Or message us on WhatsApp at +65 8961 9905 and we'll arrange the discounted rate.

What if I can't make my booked date?

No worries — give us at least 48 hours notice and we'll reschedule you to the next class at no charge.

Who shouldn't take this class?

Please skip the class (or check with your doctor first) if you have: active acne or open wounds on your face, recent facial fillers/Botox (wait 2 weeks), fresh sunburn, fragile capillaries/rosacea (consult first), or recent facial surgery.

Frequently asked questions

1. Warms the Abdomen, Nourishes the Womb, Improves Complexion

Abdominal massage helps gather and circulate internal energy, creating a pleasant warmth in the abdominal area. For women, this warmth supports uterine health and promotes better blood circulation, which can contribute to a healthier and more radiant complexion.

2. Promotes Intestinal Movement & Reduces Phlegm-Dampness

Massaging the abdomen stimulates gastrointestinal motility and strengthens the spleen’s digestive function. It can help regulate digestion and sometimes produce gentle “gurgling” sounds as the intestines become more active. This process promotes the smooth flow of Qi and blood, supports metabolism, and helps reduce phlegm-dampness and excess body fat.

3. Relieves Constipation & Supports a Slimmer Waistline

Abdominal massage enhances the natural peristaltic movement of the stomach and intestines, helping to eliminate accumulated waste and relieve constipation. When bowel movements become regular, toxins are cleared more efficiently, which may contribute to a flatter and healthier abdomen.

4. Strengthens the Spleen & Stomach for Better Nutrient Absorption

By harmonizing the stomach and strengthening the spleen’s transport and transformation functions, abdominal massage supports more efficient digestion and nutrient absorption. Improved spleen and stomach function helps generate sufficient Qi and blood to nourish the body.

5. Refreshes the Mind & Boosts Energy

When the middle Jiao (digestive system) functions well, clear Yang Qi can rise to the upper body. This helps refresh the mind, reduce fatigue, and improve overall vitality and daily performance.

1. Warmth, Hunger, Gurgling, or Gas — Normal Activation

Feeling warmth in the abdomen, increased hunger, the urge to pass stool, intestinal gurgling, burping, or passing gas during or after massage are common and normal reactions.

These signs indicate that gastrointestinal motility has increased, Qi circulation is improving, body is separating clear and turbid Qi. Gurgling sounds often mean that stagnant fluids and waste in the intestines are beginning to move and will gradually be expelled.

2. Drum-Like Abdomen — Qi Stagnation

If the abdomen feels distended like a drum but without pain when pressed, this usually indicates Qi stagnation. This condition can be relieved by eating Qi-moving foods (e.g., radish) or stimulating key acupoints such as Zhongwan (CV12) Qihai (CV6) Zusanli (ST36). Qi stagnation is often seen in individuals who suppress emotions or experience prolonged stress.

3. Multiple Tender Points — Qi Stagnation with Possible Blood Stasis

If many tender points appear when pressing the abdomen, this usually indicates Qi stagnation. If the discomfort

· Improves with massage → mainly Qi stagnation

· Persists despite massage → possible Blood Stasis

In cases of Blood Stasis, additional treatment such as massaging the corresponding meridians along the thighs may help to unblock the stagnation.

4. Soft Abdomen with Dull Distension — Qi and Blood Deficiency

If the abdomen feels soft without obvious pain points, but there is a persistent feeling of dull distension or fullness, this often suggests spleen deficiency. Strengthening the Spleen and Stomach and supporting overall Qi and Blood production is important in such cases.

5. Audible Fluid Movement — Turbid Fluids in the Digestive Tract

If pressing the upper abdomen produces noticeable fluid sounds, this may indicate the presence of turbid fluids accumulating in the digestive tract.

With continued massage:

· The sound may temporarily become louder

· Burping or passing gas may occur

· Excess fluids may eventually be eliminated through urination

This phenomenon explains why some people feel uncomfortable drinking large amounts of water—their digestive system may already be burdened by stagnant fluids.

6. Water Droplets on the Skin — Cold-Dampness Being Released

If small water droplets appear on the skin during massage, it may indicate that the body is releasing Cold-Dampness. For women, this may sometimes be accompanied by increased vaginal discharge. These reactions can occur as circulation improves and metabolism becomes more active.

7. Temporary Skin Darkening — Expelling Deep Stagnation

If the abdominal skin becomes darker after prolonged massage, it is similar to the reaction seen with moxibustion. This may indicate deeper Cold-Damp in the process of being expelled, Qi and Blood stagnation moving. The discoloration usually fades gradually as circulation improves and the body restores balance.

1. Ensure Adequate Lubrication

Apply a generous amount of massage oil over a large area of the abdomen before use.

· Spread any remaining oil from your hands onto the three massage balls.

· Do not pour oil directly onto the device, as this may damage the motor.

· For optimal lubrication and to prevent skin abrasion, it is recommended to apply abdominal massage oil first, followed by moxa massage cream.

Adequate lubrication is essential to protect the skin during massage.

2. Start Slowly and Progress Gradually

Beginners should begin with low speed and low temperature settings. Avoid using boost speed or high heat until your body has adapted and you are familiar with the device.

3. Stay Awake During Use

Do not fall asleep while using the massager. Remaining awake ensures you can monitor the pressure and lubrication. Falling asleep may lead to skin friction or abrasion if lubrication becomes insufficient.

4. Hard or Cold Abdomen

If the abdomen feels hard and cold, this may indicate significant Cold-Damp accumulation. When starting, do not tighten the belt too much, keep sessions short. You may place your hand on the massager to assist the movement. After a few days of adaptation, you can gradually tighten the belt and extend the session time.

5. Monitor Skin Condition

If your skin begins to feel dry, irritated, or uncomfortable, stop immediately and check whether additional lubrication is needed.

Applying sufficient oil and cream at the beginning greatly reduces the risk of skin irritation.

6. Temporary Detox Reactions

Some individuals may experience a temporary dull or sallow complexion after use. Similar to the reactions seen with moxibustion, this may indicate underlying Spleen and Stomach imbalance. With consistent practice, the complexion usually improves as the body's condition strengthens.

7. Multiple Areas of Application

This multifunctional massager can also be used on other parts of the body, including:

· Back, Neck, Armpits (Jiquan point – helpful for heart health and reducing auxiliary breast tissue), Legs, especially Weizhong point, which helps relieve lower back discomfort and promote detoxification

Additional applications:

· Constipated children may benefit from sitting on the device to massage the tailbone area, which may stimulate bowel movements.

· Men with larger abdomens may benefit from regular abdominal massage to support prostate health and reduce lower back strain.

· Massaging the Baliao points can support both male and female reproductive health.

8. Consider Body Hair

Individuals with significant abdominal hair should remove the hair beforehand, or massage over a thin cotton undershirt. This helps prevent hair pulling and skin discomfort.

9. Precautions for Diabetics

Individuals with diabetes should take extra care because skin wounds may heal more slowly.

Recommendations:

· Apply ample lubrication

· Use low heat settings

· Monitor the skin carefully during use

10. Contraindications

Do not use the abdominal massager under the following conditions:

· During menstruation

· Acute abdominal pain

· Intestinal obstruction

· Skin ulcers or open wounds

· Recent abdominal surgery

· Abdominal malignancies

· Fibroids larger than 5 cm

· Uterine prolapse

· Rectal prolapse

· Hemangioma

· Unknown abdominal masses or growths

If unsure whether it is safe to use, consult a healthcare professional first.
